Follow Friday

Q: Jumping Genres: Ever pick up a book from a genre you usually don’t like and LOVE it? Tell us about it and why you picked it up in the first place.

So my pick isn't a genre as such but a type of book, a kinda sub-genre if you want to get technical and that is vampire books. I don't really know why I don't like them all that much but the idea's generally seem samey and I'm just not into the whole thing. Anyway I recently picked up The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa and I have to say I loved it, there was something refreshing about her take on vampires and I really can't wait for the next in the series. I only picked this up because I heard it was similar to the movie Daybreakers which I love, while the society aspect is quite similar I think the story on a whole is completely different.

  1. OOh nice picks! I loved Julie's book and enjoyed Daybreakers too! We would so be great pals!! My friends always teased me because I was reading "vampire" books in high school. And even back then there weren't that many vampire books to read, so I had to defend my case. That I read books with way more than just vampires! There were witches, warlocks, necormancers, ghosts, demons, psychics...then I started to get the "looks" and stopped! ;)

  2. Hi Tasha!
I've only read her Fey books, and the cover for The Immortal Rules is reallly scary. I might just pick it up though :) Honestly, I'm not too fond of vampires in YA literature anymore, but this one sounds different :)

You've got an awesome blog, and I'm a new follower :)

I really need to read Kagawa. It's on my list! I also really liked Daybreakers but I think my husband thought it was cheesy. I can't argue with vampires though! Love em!

  9. I don't really do vampire books either but I really enjoyed Immortal Rules. It managed to avoid the pitfalls of the genre and I was very pleased.
